I have long admired Blair's amazingly efficient
valve/slide technique from my position next to him in the orchestra.
Now he has documented his approach in this
new book. It should be required reading (and practicing) for
any bass trombonist who plays the in-line double valve bass trombone.
Through a series of scale & arpeggio
studies, all annotated with his reccommended fingerings, Blair
guides the bass trombonist towards full and independant use of
both valves. Then, through a selection of musical examples, he
shows how this technique applies in a variety of musical situations.
If you have ever wanted to learn how Blair
accomplishes what he does on his solo
CD, this book is a great place to start.
