I
first heard this piece, originally written for organ, in a
transcription for full brass choir. I was immediately impressed with
the grandeur and nobility of the work, and became even more taken with
the music when I listened to a recording of the original organ version.
Not long after that I started work on this version for eight trombones.
The transcription features the bass trombone in several extended solo
statements of the main theme, & concludes with a final grand
chorale that gives the octet a chance to display the full power and
tonal range of the trombone choir.
